IMPACT OF POLLUTED WATER ON HEALTH Although water is life saviour, but in some of the states in India polluted water has caused health hazards and increased number of cancer cases. In rural Punjab water has turned into poison because of excess of pesticides in groundwater. A study has been carried out to see the effects of pesticides on the health of villagers and it has some alarming findings which are as follows. · Evidence of genetic damage in some cases. · DNA mutations in 65% of the blood samples. · Significantly high rate of miscarriages among women and slow growth in children. · High concentration of heavy metals such as mercury, copper, cadmium, chromium and lead in drinking water. WORKSHOP ON CHANGE MANAGEMENT FOR SECTOR PROFESSIONALS OF UTTARAKHAND RURAL DRINKING WATER AND SANITATION I was lucky to attend a workshop for change management held in National Institute of Administrative Research, Lal Bahadur Shastri Natioanl Academy of Administration, Mussoorie for Sector Professionals of Uttarakhand Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation on 30th November and 1st December 2007. The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Alok Kumar, Executive Director, NIAR, LBSNAA and later Shri J.S. Khuswah in his keynote address talked of the importance of change management in Sector Wide Approach Programme. Dr. R.P. Juyal, Consultant, NIAR, LBSNAA stressed the need of community participation and mobilization. Issues of attitudinal and behavioral change amongst the Water Sector Professionals and the Engineers need priority action. रात भर डूबता उगाता रहा इक ख्वाब तुम्हारी आंखो से गिरा merri पलकों पे सजा raat भर दूधिया चाँदनी मेंघुलता रहा एक ख़वाब...... पेड़ों के पीछे-चाँद के साथ साथ-बादलों के संग चलता रहा एक ख़वाब...... ओस से गिला ठंड में दुबका sapano की चादर बुनता रहा एक ख़वाब.........
